The Asian Pacific Fund is the only community foundation in the San Francisco Bay Area making Asian donors and issues the highest priority. The Fund works with all the Asian ethnic communities including Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, other Southeast Asians, other South Asians and Pacific Islanders.
Incorporated in 1993, the mission is to improve the health and well-being of all Asian Americans. Many people are unaware of the needs in the Asian community. The Fund supports a broad range of programs including grants, scholarships, awards, and public information on key Asian issues. The Fund has distributed more than $4.0 million in grants to community based organizations. Committed to promoting long-term stability for the community agencies who serve the most vulnerable Asians, the Fund has also invested in training and professional development for community agency staff and has begun to build endowed funds for the future. Since 2000, the Fund has also devoted resources to helping individual donors meet their charitable goals. Finally, with pride in our Asian heritage, the Fund has established programs that celebrate Asian heritage and honor outstanding Asian leaders. The popular Asian heritage program, Growing Up Asian in America, awards $27,000 annually in awards to local youth for outstanding essays and art and has distributed more than $300,000 in awards to local students since the inception. The Chang-Lin Tien Education Leadership Awards, which operates from an endowed fund that was established to honor the memory of a founding member of the Asian Pacific Fund Board, gives recognition and two $10,000 awards annually to talented Asian American leaders in higher education.
